Linens Collection

Objects from the Collection (towels, sheets, bedspreads, pillowcases, tablecloths, decorative textiles of smaller dimensions, etc.) are an integral part of every rural and urban community, accompanying a person in all life situations - from birth to death. From an ethnological aspect, in addition to their everyday use, they play a prominent role in both annual and family customs. The total number of objects in the Collection is 3753 (2020). The objects date from the second half of the 19th century to the present day, and cover a wide area of predominantly continental Croatia and, to a lesser extent, neighboring countries. Most of the objects in the Collection are products of local textile handicraft. While in the formation of the first collections, the emphasis was on the aesthetic value, later collections also attempt to record the basic purpose of each object. Changes in production, meaning and experience of furnishings are evidenced by pieces collected over the past few decades, while the future focus of collecting is limited by the scope of the Collection and directed towards the reinterpretation of traditional themes and contemporary (industrial) offer from the category.
